Putting Different Patterns on One Table

September 28, 2026·3 min read

Many patterns do not have to mean visual noise. Choose one lead colour and let every other colour simply answer it.

The easiest place to start is with one lively plate as the lead, then let the rest of the table borrow just one of its colours. A coral hibiscus plate, for example, works with a cobalt side dish, a cream soup bowl and clear glasses.

Keep the cloth quiet: linen, warm white or pale wood lets the glaze do the talking. The flowers do not need to be abundant; one small stem echoing the plate is enough.

Finally, leave some empty space. A beautiful table still needs room for the food.
